The Center for the Study of Traditional Chinese Cultures (Zhongguo chuantong wenhua yanjiu zhongxin 中國傳統文化研究中心, hereafter CSTCC), which is part of the Department for Chinese Language and Literature, was founded in 2019 and officially opened in the same year by the Rector of the Ruhr University Bochum, Prof. Dr. Axel Schölmerich, during a workshop of the Department for Chinese Language and Literature titled "Kneeling Women, Blinded Slaves: Character Interpretation and the Historical Semantics of Chinese Terms of Dependency". The CSTCC focuses on the exploration of central questions in sinology: not "the one" traditional culture of China, but the traditional cultures of China and therefore plurality instead of singularity are in the spotlight. A variety of courses, workshops, publication series, projects as well as guest professorships supplement the work of the Department for Chinese Language and Literature. The following pages not only provide an overview of the concept and structure of the CSTCC, but also offer an insight into its work in the international arena. The research spectrum of the CSTCC is illustrated here by introducing its staff and associated scientists. In addition, you will find a list of current publications of all contributors and an overview of the ongoing projects of the center. Furthermore, you are welcome to subscribe to a mailing list giving periodical updates about current developments and publications.
